Transit Custom Engines: 2.0 EcoBlue & 2.2 TDCi

The first-generation Transit Custom (2012–2017) used the well-proven 2.2 TDCi Duratorq engine in 100, 125 and 155 PS outputs, with engine codes such as CYF6, DRFB and CVF5. From 2016 Ford introduced the 2.0 EcoBlue (1,995 cc), a cleaner, more powerful common-rail engine offered in 105, 130, 170 and 185 PS forms, later joined by a mild-hybrid (mHEV) version. Correctly identifying your engine code — YLF6, YMF6, BKFA and so on — is critical, and we are happy to do this from your registration.

The Wet Belt Problem on the Transit Custom

The 2.0 EcoBlue engine uses a wet belt — a rubber timing belt that runs inside the engine, bathed in oil. Over time the belt degrades, and tiny fragments of rubber break away and block the oil pickup strainer. The result is catastrophic oil starvation that can wipe out the bearings and turbo in seconds. • Knocking or tapping from the bottom end, especially under load
• Blue smoke on start-up or acceleration indicating worn bores or valve seals

What Our Transit Custom Rebuild Involves

Every rebuild starts with a complete strip-down and inspection. We machine the block where needed, recondition or replace the crankshaft, skim and pressure-test the cylinder head, and reassemble with quality pistons, rings, bearings and a full gasket and seal kit. Crucially, on EcoBlue engines we always renew the oil pump and oil pickup strainer, because a rebuilt engine fed by a partly blocked pickup will not last. The wet belt is replaced with the latest specification part, and the whole engine is run and tested before it goes back in your van.
