Ford Ranger Engine Rebuilds

Heavy-duty Ford Ranger engine rebuilds covering the 2.0 EcoBlue bi-turbo, 2.2 TDCi and 3.2 TDCi 5-cylinder diesels. Removed, rebuilt and re-fitted for pickups that work hard.

The Ford Ranger is one of the toughest pickups on the road, built to tow, haul and work in the harshest conditions. But heavy towing, high mileage and demanding duty cycles put enormous strain on its diesel engines. When a Ranger engine finally gives up, our specialist Ford Ranger engine rebuild service brings it back to life — removed, rebuilt and re-fitted from just £2,495. We rebuild the whole Ranger engine line-up, from the modern 2.0 EcoBlue to the legendary 3.2 five-cylinder Duratorq.

Ranger owners depend on their trucks, and we understand that downtime costs money. That is why we diagnose accurately, quote honestly and rebuild to a standard that stands up to real working use — not just a quick fix.

Ford Ranger Engines We Rebuild

The current Ranger uses the 2.0 EcoBlue (1,996 cc) in single-turbo and powerful bi-turbo forms, with engine codes such as YN2S, YMA6 and YP2S. Earlier T6 Rangers were offered with the 2.2 TDCi Duratorq (2,198 cc, codes QJ2R and GBVA) and the flagship 3.2 TDCi five-cylinder Duratorq (3,198 cc, codes SA2R, SAFA and P5AT) — an engine famous for its torque and its distinctive warble. Whichever you have, correct engine-code identification is vital, and we handle that for you from your registration.

Common Ford Ranger Engine Problems

The 3.2 and 2.2 Duratorq engines are strong, but they are not immune to trouble. We regularly see turbo failures, EGR and inlet-related carbon build-up, injector wear causing bore wash, and overheating from failed water pumps or blocked coolers — which can crack the head or warp the block. The 2.0 EcoBlue bi-turbo, while impressively powerful, shares the wider EcoBlue family’s sensitivity to oil condition and, on some applications, the wet belt design. If your Ranger uses a belt-in-oil engine, our wet belt replacement page is essential reading.

Built to Tow — Rebuilt to Last

A pickup that spends its life towing trailers, plant and caravans needs an engine that can take the heat. When we rebuild a Ranger engine we pay particular attention to the cooling system, oil supply and bottom-end tolerances, because these are the areas that fail first under sustained load. Every rebuild uses quality pistons, rings and bearings, a properly machined block and a fully reconditioned head, so your truck is ready to work again the day it leaves us. This is the same thorough approach behind our wider engine rebuild Ford Transit engine rebuilds reputation.

Signs Your Ranger Needs an Engine Rebuild

  • Knocking or rumbling from the bottom end under load or towing
  • Loss of power, limp mode or heavy smoke
  • Low oil pressure warnings or rapidly rising oil consumption
  • Overheating, coolant loss or oil and water mixing
  • Turbo whine, boost loss or oil in the intercooler

Our causes of engine failure page explains how these faults develop — and how catching them early keeps costs down.
