Transit Connect Engine Rebuilds
Reconditioned Ford Transit Connect engines covering the 1.5 EcoBlue, 1.6 TDCi and earlier 1.8 TDCi units. Removed, rebuilt and re-fitted by Ford diesel specialists.
The Ford Transit Connect is the compact workhorse of the Transit family — a car-derived van that couriers, tradespeople and fleets rely on every single day. Its smaller diesel engines are efficient and generally dependable, but high urban mileage, stop-start driving and missed servicing all take their toll. When the engine finally lets go, our Transit Connect engine rebuild service returns your van to full health, with a reconditioned engine that is removed, rebuilt and re-fitted from just £2,495.
We rebuild the full range of Connect engines, from the modern 1.5 EcoBlue back to the earlier 1.6 and 1.8 TDCi units, and even the 1.0 EcoBoost petrol. Whatever the fault — a snapped wet belt, worn bores, a cracked head or a spun bearing — we diagnose it properly and fix it at the source.
Transit Connect Engines We Rebuild
The second-generation Connect (from 2013) is built around the 1.5 EcoBlue / 1.5 TDCi (1,499 cc) and the 1.6 TDCi Duratorq (1,560 cc), with engine codes such as XWGA, ZTGA, T1GA and UBGA. Earlier first-generation vans used the robust 1.8 TDCi (1,753 cc) with codes like BHPA, HCPA and R2PA. Because these engines share components with a wide range of Ford and PSA products, correct engine-code identification is essential to a lasting rebuild — and something we handle for you from your registration.
Wet Belt Failures on the 1.5 EcoBlue
Like its larger siblings, the 1.5 EcoBlue Connect uses a wet belt that runs in oil. As the belt ages it sheds material into the sump, blocking the oil pickup and starving the engine. Many Connect engines that come to us for a rebuild have failed for exactly this reason. If your belt is anywhere near its replacement interval, read our wet belt replacement page — catching it early is far cheaper than a full rebuild.
Why Rebuild Rather Than Replace?
Because the Connect is a smaller, lighter van, owners are often tempted to write it off when the engine fails. In most cases that is a mistake. A properly reconditioned engine costs a fraction of a new dealer unit and gives you far more certainty than an unknown used engine from a breaker. Our rebuilds restore the engine to original tolerances and address the known weak points, so you get a van that will keep earning for years. This is the heart of the engine rebuild Ford Transit engine rebuilds service we are known for.
Signs Your Connect Needs Attention
- Rattling from the timing/belt area or a sudden loss of power
- Oil pressure warning lights or low oil pressure at idle
- Excessive smoke, poor starting or heavy oil consumption
- Knocking under load indicating worn bearings
- Overheating that may have warped or cracked the head
For a fuller explanation of what causes these problems, see our common causes of engine failure guide.
